It is EXTREMELY gripping. It has parts that are really sad (SPOILER ALERT: Rue's death to name but one). The book is definitely better than the film (but the film is still great). It is violent (SPOILER ALERT: the 'Hunger Games' in the story is a televised death match between 24 random children from 12 to 18-years-old), so I would not give it to anyone under 9 years old. It doesn't have swearing in it, but (SPOILER ALERT) one of the semi-main characters is a drunk. The first-person, present tense way the story is told makes all the action parts action-ier and all the sad parts sadder. The bit that gripped me most is when (SPOILER ALERT) Prim is called out at the reaping and Katniss volunteers and my favourite character is Cinna. READ THE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY!

Fabulous! I'm looking forward the reading the next book in the series - there are three books in the series and this is the first one.

I think children should read this book because it has amazing action it also is really tense when the actual hunger games begin. It is also quite sad and creepy as there is a lot of deaths and blood so I think that it is an about 10+.

its awesome and exciting and you can travel with katniss to the hunger games.

Anonymous 25.06.2014

This book is really cool as it is set in a grim future where the terrible hunger games are held every year where tributes battle to death. There are only two rules:Kill or Be killed.

This was a good book and quite gripping and a potentially very good concept. However, it was let down as the writer never really got you to care about the characters or their deaths. For example this is meant to be a world where they punish the local districts by making them enter persons to play to the death in the games, however, they then have supposed sponsors and state that each watch on televisions or on huge public monitors, you cannot have both games for enjoyment when they are selecting children to be killed, most wouldn't watch or want to watch. Such as the running man where you could really image this being a possibility where there are adult criminals being hunted and bet on for games. Overall enjoyable read, but several flaws and not sure that appropriate for young adults so 3 stars due to this.

A great and an exciting book!

Anonymous 29.07.2016

This book is amazing. It has a heroine, Katniss, who lives in poverty in district 12 along with everyone else when every year, 2 people from each district are randomly selected to battle one another for a grand house and freedom, or so they thought...

I think that this book should be read because you can not put the book down because there is always something exiting our dangerous going on in this book. I recommend this book for ages 11+ because there is a lot of violence in this book.

You should defiantly read this book because it is amazing. At first it is really boring but then it gets really exciting and mysterious. Also all of the other set books are also absolutely amazing. Just to point out you should definatly watch the films or movies!!

I enjoyed reading this SO much! I thought that the characters, who we have learnt to love in the previous books, developed new layers to their personality - Peeta in particular! A lot of other reviews have suggested that Katniss is unlikable and that she becomes weak and 'whiney', but I found her one of the most relatable characters BECAUSE of her flaws. Her reactions to the trauma that she suffers makes this one of the most gut-wrenching books I've read.

it is one of the best books i read. it is very adventurous.

I think you should read this book because it is amazing!!!!!! It can be quite gruesome at some points so I suggest if you don't like scary or gruesome books you should not read this. Let me tell you about the plot: The main character is Katniss Everdeen. There is the country Panem, and the Capitol. There are also thirteen districts. At one point in time, the districts started uprising against the Capitol. The Capitol went into war and overpowered the other districts, also causing the extinction of District thirteen, the last district. Now, each year there is the Hunger Games, to remind the Districts that the Capitol is always stronger. All the names of the children over twelve in the Districts, (not the Capitol) get entered into a kind of lottery ball, once when your twelve, twice when you thirteen and so on until your eighteen. You can also sign up for tesera to get your name entered more. Then, one boy and one girl get chosen to go in a fight to death with the other districts. There is only one rule: Kill, or be killed....

This is the best book I have ever read!!! I couldn't put it down! It is so cleverly written and witty. Full of action - couldn't wait to read the next one in the series. However, wouldn't recommend for people under the age of 10 due to tricky, violent concepts. AMAZING!!!

I very much enjoyed The Hunger Games. The exquisite plotline, characters and dramatic ending, makes it one of the greatest books I have read. While reading this book, I felt I could picture it better in my head than I could watching the film. I feel like this is the work of small, almost hidden details. Some may find these unnecessary, but it's these details that make the book so dramatic and engaging. You can almost feel the same emotion that the characters are feeling. I don't feel like spoiling the entire book for others, so I encourage you to read it yourself, you know, if you don't mind a bit of blood and gore!

Anonymous 20.08.2016

I really enjoyed reading this book, it is probably my favourite so far. This book is based kind of on the future how everyone is separated in districts and how they have to fight to live. My favourite part was when Katniss' sister (Primrose) was chosen to play in the hunger games but Katniss volunteered to take her place.
