Reading Ahead is the new name for the Six Book Challenge.
I didn’t have a very good time at school – I was bullied because of my special needs and although I went on to do mainstream classes I left school at 16 without any qualifications.
But then I started studying at Adam Smith College (now Fife College), where they do the Six Book Challenge. Now I like reading books. I never used to.
Some books I’ll start reading and after a couple of pages I’ll put the book down, because I’m not interested, but other books I can get into right from the start, and then go straight on to another one.
I felt very proud when I got my certificate for completing the Six Book Challenge for the first time.
I find I look forward to doing the Six Book Challenge, and it has helped me with my studying and my reading and writing confidence. That’s the best thing about doing the Challenge.
